STI Awareness Week

The CDC's STI Awareness Week underscores the public health priority of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). It provides an opportunity to raise awareness about STIs and how they impact our lives. Tackling this global issue involves mitigating the associated stigma and discrimination, and ensuring people have the tools and knowledge for prevention, testing and treatment.¹

According to CDC estimates, around 1 in 5 people in the US have an STI, with almost half of new infections occuring among youth aged 15-24 years of age. Despite this prevalence, less than 12% of young people get tested for STIs.² This all adds up to nearly $16 billion in direct medical costs to the American health care system each year.¹
